In this tutorial, we will be using a basic 3D Render as a base to paint over in Photoshop.

What you'll learn

In this tutorial, we will be using a basic 3D Render as a base to paint over in Photoshop. We will explore how to move from thumbnailing the basic shape of a vehicle in a 3D package, rendering it out, and then adding a combination of photo textures and painted details in Photoshop to produce a complete concept illustration. Software required: 3ds Max 2011, Photoshop CS5.

About the author

Stanley began his career designing small autonomous payloads for NASA's GAS-Can program, and has flown two experiments aboard the Space Shuttle (Atlantis and Endeavor). Stanley then pursued a degree in Astrophysics through the University of Chicago Department of Physics.
