by Eddie Russell

In this MARI tutorial, we'll walk through a standard workflow for texturing assets for VFX. Software required: MARI 3.0.

What you'll learn

In this MARI tutorial, we'll walk through a standard workflow for texturing assets for VFX. We'll take a step-by-step approach through the process, starting with nothing and ending our project by using the MODO renderer integration to perform some look dev on our textures. We'll learn how to setup our project for either UV or Ptex based texturing. From here, we'll learn how MARI handles a linear workflow using Color Management as well as how we can bring in the camera data for the shot we'll be texturing. When it comes to painting textures - MARI stands alone; so from here we'll learn how projection painting works inside of MARI. We'll also learn about the power in procedural layers and how we can use it to save time and create flexibility. After we finish with our textures, we'll learn about an exciting new feature in MARI 3.0 that allows us to render right inside of MARI using the MODO renderer. This great new addition allows us to quickly see how our textures will look once rendered. To wrap things up, we'll learn how to export all of our textures out of MARI. By the end of this MARI training, you'll have some great ideas of how MARI can be used to paint textures for your own VFX work. Software required: MARI 3.0.
