What you'll learn

In this VR tutorial, we'll learn how to model a challenging game asset for a virtual reality experience. While most of the work involved isn't much different from modeling for other platforms, modeling for VR does have some specific challenges that need to be addressed. We'll start out by learning how to set up a production standard that will help us ensure that our asset has proper scale. Then we'll dive into creating the game asset from start to finish, all the while discussing what is most important for the game mesh construction, laying out the UVs, and texturing the asset. We'll finish up by testing our game asset in a simple VR environment. By the end of this VR training, you'll have a solid understanding of the challenges you'll need to overcome when creating assets for your own VR projects. Software required: 3ds Max 2016, Unity, Substance Painter 1.5.
