Hi, I can't believe that I have to post this question, but I simply can't fill this hole. How would you guys close the three holes at the top of the sphere? Is there a particular reason why "fill hole" works on the rest of the model, but not here?
Mesh > Fill hole (in Maya 8.0+)
Polygon > Fill Hole (older versions) i could be wrong
The reason this doesn't work is probably because i suspect you'll be creating manifold meshes which Maya and most software hates.
Did you select the edges that connect the face. (i.e are you in edge selection mode)
I just tried it with a simple poly sphere and it works fine.

It's under Edit Polygons in Maya 7.0.

Guys, I may be mistaken but I just tried cause I think the fact he has faces below the place where he want to fill the hole that FILL HOLE won't work. I believe in this case with the faces below where he wants to fill, he will have to extrude an edge and then merge the vertices's.
Without seeing the scene file and knowing how it's set up, it's hard to say....chances are as Farla said that there is some non-manifold geometry there causing problems.
You can extrude, merge, append polys, etc. as alternatives too.
The append to poly to would do great here.
OK, then I am missing something. In his picture it appears he would like to fill the holes on the top of the sphere. I have looked at the image and it appears that it has been extruded down and there are faces below where he would like to fill hole. If that be the case then I am not sure append to poly, fill hole would work. But I may be way off track and am sorry if I am.
Wow, thanks for all the replies! Fill hole didn't work. The sphere was part of a model that I was going to mirror. When I mirrored the geometry, it automatically filled the holes (why does it do that?). So for now I am fine. Thanks again for all the replies.
