Someone hanging from a cliff edge

Hi guys, I am doing a short film in which I will be needing a shot where there's a person hanging from a cliff edge and an other person holding him. We are doing this with no or very limited budget.

Do you have some ideas, tips and tricks on how we can replicate this in a safe way?

Cliff location is not a problem but obviously we cannot hang someone from a cliff and we don't have the money to hire a stunt team that use safety equipment, etc... so most probably this have to be done in post.

We'll mainly be using after effects.

Thank you for your help guys.

Here's a sketch showing what we're trying to achieve.

Re: Someone hanging from a cliff edge

You get a close up shot of someone hanging onto a rock. Could be right next to the ground. If you want the person hanging then you could also have their feet above. Or a hand reaching out. Then you could have a wide shot of a rock face with someone near the edge. You could greenscreen someone in with key light in ae hanging off edge. If you want the person holding you might need to greenscreen the two hands intertwined pretty close and put that over footage of rock. I would storyboard and overdo shot list in order to get more to play with. Get a wide shot of background/cliff with no one. Get wide shot of someone at edge, reaching out if it's safe. Get mid shot and close up. Start wide and go in close as action progresses. I would scout for locations where you Could do this. If u don't have money for greenscreen you could get a green sheet - not the best but it's worked for me before i had a proper greenscreen. Quick cuts and a bit of blur can go a long way. Hope this helps. Feel free to send me a message if you have other questions. Good luck with the project.

Should storyboard the sequence some more, like "story2rewrite" said.

Experiment with going to the playground - hand off some monkey bars - to get good shots of someone dangling.

Use a bed, covered in a sheet with one color. Shoot the person lying down. Then the bed will be easy to mask out, because of the 1 color, etc.....

You could make a set with something like hay bales - cover with a solid color, etc....

    Thanks for the help guys

I think with that idea (compositing many different shots into 1) it shouldn't be very hard.

    Thank you once again
