Exclamation Introduction to Maya 2011 - Huge porble with instanced object.

Hi guys, I have a pretty big problem with my model. I'm at tutorial 21, modelling the rear cone and thrust-ring.

The problem is, I can't move the thrust-ring in any axis. I've made a few pictures to demonstrate the problem.

I'm trying to move the objects with the yellow arrow and instead of them moving to the right side they seem to "explode". The objects were duplicated using "duplicate special" and are instances.

    How can I fix this?

Im not really sure what you mean but sort of sounds like under your Edit Mesh, top box- Keep Face Together . That was my problem in that area.

Thanks for the tip but that didn't help.

I'll try to explain the problem a little bit better. In the first picture you can see my selected objects, I want to move them in the X axis using the yellow arrow.
Instead of moving on the X axis the objects separate and and move in a cylindrical form, as seen on picture 2 and 3.

Very interesting, I dont know hopefully someone else can chime in, almost sounds like it has some history that needs deleted.

I am a Face of Change

Re: Introduction to Maya 2011 - Huge porble with instanced object.

    Hi Eliras,

This looks like a double transformation issue. If you have the original selected AND every copy, and change you make will effect the copied objects two times as strong. You probably only want to select the copies and then transform them.

edit: We discuss what double transforms are and how to avoid them in our Understanding what double transformations are and ways to avoid them video tutorial in our Introduction to Rigging course.
