One thing iPad needs to make it a standard 3D tool

Pressure touch sensitive screen. Like the Wacom Cintiq. If Apple can do that with the next iPad, they will make huge inroads into the 3D art/graphics world. Just think, an iPad with the capabilities of a Cintiq, only much slimmer.
Of course then we would need to have zBrush and others running on iPad, which means a better processor and RAM, and retaining decent battery ife. Still, it's a nice dream.

you should check out autodesk 123Make or something like that, take 360 degree of pictures then sent to cloud to create 3D image. Not Maya or Max type of 3D, but it pretty cool.

Sounds like you're talking about old-school tablet PCs. While they're not as popular as iPads and iPad-like tablets, there's still plenty of them around. If you want a tablet with pressure sensitivity just like Wacom's Cintiq or their standalone tablets, look for Wacom Penabled technology: http://www.wacom-components.com/engl...ner/index.html

Pressure sensitivity on the ipad would be nice but it still wouldn't support all the applications you normally use like Photoshop, painter, zbrush etc. I actually own a Fujitsu tablet pc. The screen swivels so its a laptop as well. I would have preferred a pure tablet though. It is a nice machine but I was pretty disappointed in the screen, which is obviously important for an artist especially if your painting and using lots of colors. I need to get online and see if threes anything I can do to to calibrate it better..

Microsoft just announced their own tablet called Surface which runs a full version of windows 8. The pro version will come with a stylus, so i have my fingers crossed that it will be pressure sensitive. Either way I have to imagine the cintiq is the best digital surface to draw on because of its size and setup. I want one...badly =P

Nothing cool will happen this year, maybe end of next year. If you never use any wacom tablet should pick one up this year, myself is waiting next cool tablet with pressure. Windows 8 tablet pro with intel cpu + Photoshop CS7 + tablet make from Wacom should happen 2014. cross finger !!

I had a try of a Cintiq and it was very nice to use. All they need to do is make it thinner like an iPad and a bit cheaper.
