    Criticism wanted

    Hi,
Just wanted to show someone my very first character in Maya. It took me about 2 weeks to get this far and I´ve just started to learn the rigging process. I´d love to hear some feedback.

Hi Pauljontaylor! For some reason, your images aren't showing up. Can you try re-posting them?

It's looking really good so far! Great job for being only 2-weeks-deep! Perhaps take down the reflectivity of his shoes and the ball. Also, adding some slight diversity to the texturing on the structures might help. Same for the grass. Overall, I love the cartoony style, and your character's face looks like it has the potential for some great expressions!

Yeah, there´s no bump-mapping on any of the textures yet, and to be honest texturing is something I´m not too good at. The shirt looks ok from a distance but not great up close. I'll test out reducing the reflectivity....Thanks very much for the comment. I thought 2 weeks-deep was a long time .... It is when you watch the experts do their tutorials in under 2 hours Lol.

You're doing great. Two weeks is very good for where you are as a beginner! I know what you mean about following along with the expert instructors, though! They tend to do a fantastic job despite the amount of information they have to convey, and the best part (unlike most classrooms), is that you can rewind and replay!

As for the textures, you may not need to worry about bump-mapping yet, but perhaps investigating texturing techniques a bit further at some point would be a good idea. DT has lots of texturing kits available. I think the shirt looks pretty good, actually. Looking forward to seeing more as you develop your scene! The rigging should be fun! I can see the soccer player juggling away now!
