    April 2012: Anansi

I know I'm a little late to the party, but hopefully that's not a problem . I've been working on this for a few days and figured I'd submit it.

I've chosen the character Anansi from West African and Caribbean folklore. He's considered both wise and a trickster. If there were a story to go along with this, it would be about how Anansi tricked Owl into giving him the knowledge of the ages.

I'll be attempting to use Maya (intermediate-ish), Mudbox (total novice) and Photoshop (solid intermediate). Since I have some free time, my primary goal is to finish .

Never heard of this character before, I like that! It's great to meet a new character whenever you can. I think the sketches are great! Beaming with potential! Cannot wait to see some 3D!

    Thank you both.
@dan17gle - It's been ages since I've heard reference to Anansi as well. I chose him specifically because I didn't have a ready visuals. I had a lot of fun working on the concept.

Here's the finished base mesh. I started it last week, but completely re-worked the head these past two days. Fiddled around with lights and render settings today for posting, so those will most likely change.

Looking sweet, katastrophiq! You may just want to check the diameter/thickness of the legs. They need to be 2mm thick in order to print! Really looking cool so far!

Yep, I had to modify my concept a little after re-reading the guidelines yesterday. I'm not sure how thick the legs are at the moment, but I've added props to make it more sturdy. Thanks.

Hmmm... looks like a browser thing. Firefox doesn't appear to like the attachment option in the forum. Try Safari and Chrome while I work on figuring out how to post differently.

Had a few growing pains with Mudbox, but I think I've got the hang of it. More sculpting to be done, but here's the latest WIP.

This is friendly reminder to inform you there are 5 days left til the due date. If you have not already, please start moving into the post-production process, that is, texturing and lighting your model. Again, please feel free to let us know if you are facing any issues regarding the completion of your project. Good luck!
