modeling a racetrack for unity in maya

    Hello,

I like to create a racetrack for Unity in Maya. Is it the best way to keep the road seperate to the terrain? First I tried to loft the track and after that I created a plane, deleted the overlappings in the plane and thought the best way is to stich every point of the road with the plane. But this is a lot of work to merge every point.

So my question is it better to leave the terrain seperate? To create the terrain with unity and import only the track? Or should I create the terrain in maya, too?

Or do I'll get some problem in unity if I have these separated?

    Thanks for all tips.

    Hi DragonShaolin,

You should be able to keep the terrain and road separate from each other and it should work fine in Unity. Of course the difficult part will be where the road and terrain overlap, but that will be difficult no matter where you do it. So: Build the terrain in whichever app will give you the terrain look you want.

    Just had a thought:

You can download Unity's Car Tutorial files to see how they created the track.

Thanks a lot for your tip. I'll try this.

I already tried to import the fbx project files in maya. But they don't apear. They are not visible in Maya. Maybe a wrong import parameter?

Keep up the good work in unity tutorials
