    Very interesting scorpionish creature

    Re: New WIP

This is my bug night. His name's Akematsu. This is actually the current iteration of one of my very first zsphere creatures I made months ago when I was just starting to play around with them. He's come a long way since then

I'm actually having a lot of problems importing a sword I made in maya and appending it to this Ztool. I can import the obj but when I append it it doesn't display. Anyone have any ideas?

    Re: New WIP

Redid the legs twice a few weeks ago and finally got something I'm happy with. I also finally sculpted the wings. The smart way of doing them would've just been using a flat poly plane with a wing texture displayed on them, but I always do things the complicated, time consuming way. On that note, did you know that Thomas Edison made a crapload of lightbulbs that didn't work before he made one that did? I also built a cool sword in Maya, decided it didn't fit, and built another one that's much better proportioned. I'll get a shot of that up soon, I have a bunch of minor details around the joints that I'm working on before I retopo.

Also, thanks for the kind words everyone, this thing's been driving me crazy at times but I will finish it.

    Re: New WIP

Since this is my first retopo I'm going to try to plan the entire thing pretty completely before I jump in with the retopo tools. So far it's about as complicated as I thought it was going to be, a lot like putting a puzzle together.

A few general questions tho, since this will be the basemesh for possible displacement/normal maps should I try as hard as I can to keep away from tri's ?

    Re: New WIP

Spent another day on the retopo and finished the torso, then went back and redid the abdomen and stomach. Now the entire thing has a lot more uniform poly density, a lot less triangles, and I've captured a bit more of the abdomen detail in the retopo. I'm still not sure exactly how much detail will project across when I'm done but I'm starting to decide which details are more important.

Arms and legs shouldn't be too hard to figure out, then it's onto the wings. I'm probably just going to retopo one then copy it to the other locations and stitch it all together.

Been hacking away at this over the last week. Did the back leg, redid the back leg, learned some cool tricks for when you accidentally turn off symmetry and keep working for....an hour or so, then did the front leg.

sry i just read your question about retopoing the mesh, yes you should try and avoide all the tris and make it all quads...
