RenderMan command line weirdness

i'm working with Renderman Studio in Maya 8.5. the single frame render works fine in the UI. the batch... not so much. can't really tell since nothing happens in either the script window or the Output window. when i try a command line render... it looks like it's loading the Mental Ray renderer!

here's what happens:

>> render - r rman scenes/Unit_Test.mb

Starting "C:\Program Files (x86)\Autodesk\Maya8.5\bin\mayabatch.exe"
mental ray for Maya 8.5
mental ray: version 3.5.6.8 14 Feb 2007, revision 20433
mental ray: mental ray for Maya - starup done

...and then it just sits there... doing diddly squat but cranking up the CPU usage to around 85-90.

anyone else have this weirdness going on and fixed it?

Hi WR. Try and disable the MayatoMR plugin and delete any existing MR global nodes.

PS: while i didn't figure it out, i upgraded to Maya 2008 on my other box and now it works just fine.
