Does your plane turns green when you apply the background shader? Check this video out and let us know if it works or not?

i made exactly as the video shows. and it does not work all the way, first off, when i use an image plane, maya gets werry heavy and laggs alot, second, i can still see the "UBS Plane"after render, but now it is like an small displacment on the image plane. when i used maya 6.5 it worked perfectly but not on maya 7. i attatched an image on my original post..were u can see that there is an obvius problem, i have to be able to use the UBS infront of polygon objects that has textures asigned to them.

Is that another plane at the bottom? :D Remove that, and then render. Your background shader is working...it just doesn't like that bottom plane. After rendering, turn on the alpha, and you'll see your sphere's shadow sans floor ;)

i can see the shadow when i turn on alpha wouthout the bottom plane.
but if i want that bottom plane to have an image so that it looks like the shadow is on the other plane it turns out like the image i have attatched, witch is totaly wrong, the plane with USB attatced to it sould not cast shadow or show up after rendering, if i take away the image then there is no point on using UBS becouse the shadow would not show up, every thing would be black...btw thanks for helping so fast =), love the net=)

I see...well why not render the scene without the bottom plane and composite it in Photoshop or AfterEffects? Technically, you don't need a bottom plane if you are using background shader on the top one, otherwise just use the bottom plane with the image texture on it.
* If you do want to render the scene with the background, then apply that image to the camera as a background environment. Thus, you can still use the background shader on the plane. Bottom line: use only one plane when using background shader.
Hope that made sense :p
And now I have to go to class. I'll b back in 3 hrs. Let me know if it's still bothering u.
Ajö, Telefunken :)
