I have a created a poly car model and I want to cut out the shape of the headlights.

Is it possible to create the shape ( create poly ), and then have that shape cut out across the front fender where the headlights would be?

Another quaestion... How can I get a nice tight corner by the windows> Where the verts meet, once smoothed, the window corners are rounded.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. :)

Thanks

For your first question, you would need to use booleans to cut out a shape using another piece of geometry. Digital-Tutors has a free lesson on Booleans here:

For your second question, if you want to keep the corners from rounding, you need to use your split polygon tool to add more splits in the areas around that corner.
Having more geometry in that area will help reduce the ammount of rounding.

Also, if you are using Maya 7.0, you may want to checkout the Poly Crease Tool:

Thanks for the reply green.
I used booleans, but I thought there might have been a better way.

I did add more splits around the window corners, but I guess I just did a poor job. I'll try again.

Thanks for the speedy reply.

( I'm using Maya 5 )
