I was beyond excited when I heard that you DT was going to create training DVD's for RenderMan for Maya!
Do you guys have a time estimate of when we can expect to see it? Also, do you know about how much it will cost.
Thanks,
Ryan

As a matter of fact, we will be releasing the RenderMan for Maya training kit Friday Feb. 17th! Glad you are excited about it. The price is set at $45.99. There is over 3 hours of content in this kit.

And the "Introduction to RenderMan for Maya" training kit has been released!

enjoy!
Orbitalpunk,
I clearly remember you asking for this training. We have been working hard on this kit both internally and with Pixar. I think you will be happy with the training. It is a great overview of how to set up shots and render them using RenderMan for Maya.

I just bought mine! I can't wait to get it.
I've already learned something from one of the free videos that you posted. Great job, guys!
There will be lots more all next week. Tanya just posted on on zbrush and RenderMan displacements you might want to check out. It is also on the kit you just ordered.

Well I don’t know if my request had anything to do with this kit coming out, I can only hope, but I think many many people will really benefit from it and it will raise the bar when it comes to training. It really raises DT above the rest I feel. I always wish DT success and hope they move in the right direction, this kit I feel does just that, because DT has been my school of training from the start since i can't afford a physical school. DT really is my school of study and im very proud to see the release of this one of kind kit.
Bravo DT, Bravo....

Oh yes, it does :D . DT doesn't produce stuff without request or if it isn't in demand. So we're watching you, Orbital ;) j/k. But seriously, thank you and to all who requested Renderman.
Speaking of in demand, XSI's new kit again brings to notice I should keep my practice :eyeRoll . I like XSI's rendering capabilities...wonder how it holds up to Renderman.
Well since xsi's rendering engine is mental ray there is a lot of power and control. But for extreme scenes with tons of objects and textures RenderMan is the way to go.

Great! a confirmation from the pro. I was just making myself happy here, Papa, lol. Finding comfort in XSI. Renderman doesn't have a student license...I don't have a Bentley but at least my jalopy gets me where I wanna go :laugh
I am not sure about a student version but I think they may have plans for a ple so you can at least test drive the app. I'll keep you guys posted if it is a reality.

on the other hand you could just wait for autodesk to buy renderman and make it a part of their products:)

I just got it today! Amazing! I've only been through a couple of the lessons and I am amazed at how much more I understand RfM, now (where I was totally confused before).
Even the "Loading the RenderMan for Maya plug-in" section taught me a few new things. I can't believe how good you guys are at throwing in things that users would have never thought of.
Thank you guys SOOOO MUCH for this!! I am looking forward to going through the rest of this kit, and I can't wait until you guys release future versions of the RfM training.
Thanks, again!

Hey, that was quick. Thanks for a really helpful feedback, darbble. Can't wait to get mine :D.
Sunder is really our RfM Guru. He has found out so much about that program. The renderer is good if you have a powerful system and access to the software.
I'm glad you are learning from it,

I have to say that one of my favorite things about your training kits is that you leave your mistakes in there. I'm not sure if you plan them that way or not, but more than not, I run into those same mistakes and it is refreshing to know that there is a way to get out of them.
I've seen so many other forms of training that will obviously make a mistake but then edit it out. Or, run into a mistake, edit it out, and then redo it the right way. Who does that help? :)
Nobody is perfect, and for you guys to not only show us how to effectively use the software but also show problems that you can run into, gives guys like me (who make a lot of mistakes) a fighting chance.
Thanks again!
It is mostly by design. When we find an issue that we ran into we want to make sure to include that so you have a way to work out of that issue too. I feel that type of hands on learning is really the way to learn and master the tool set.
