View Full Version : Constraint Issues

Hello,

Sorry this is so long but constraints can be scary...

I am creating a skateboard animation and I will need the character to interact with different parts of the board at different times like when I pick up the board using my hand or when I am on the board using my feet as examples.

I have created locators for the different body parts and parented them to my hands and feet. I would like to point and orient constrain locators to different parts of the board but the only problem is that the board locator constraints are based on the pivot point of my board and since the board only has one pivot point how do I create multiple constraints on a single object that i can turn on and off when needed that actually travel with the board while keeping the transform and rotation of my board for animation seperate when required.

Btw I tried grouping the board to itself getting more pivot points but when I interact with the board by picking it up the other locators stay in the same spot so when I go to jump on the board the are not where I initially place them, maybe its a hierarchy issue.

Is it me or is this a very complex system I'm trying to create. I would appreciate any advice or suggestions for solving or simplifying this task.

Thanx

Are you trying to fix the skateboard to the legs/hands or the legs/hands to the skateboard?

Legs and hands to board

Assuming your skateboard is static and doesn't deform like most skateboards, you could just place locators on the board and make them children of the skateboard itself. Then you can create parent constraints for the hands and legs to the board and animate their weights as needed to switch them about.

So the locators are parented to the board and I have parent constrained the hands and feet to the board but what seems to be happening is that in order to position the hand for example to the appropriate locator I am turning off the constraint and repositioning the hand on the board and then turning the constraint back on and then the board shifts away from the hand an equal distance to how far I moved the hand to meet the board. plus when I turn maintain offset off to fix this (I thought) the board moves to the hand which is glued to the boards pivot point.

I have never seen anything regarding multiple constraints on a single object anywhere, maybe this would be a good vtm.

Sorry. In my last reply, I meant to say "create parent constraints for the hands and legs to the locators of the board" and not to the board directly.
Please try that.
