I'd love to the work in progress :D, always fun to know.

Crap! I didn't get any notification about this thread the whole week. Lots of replies here, thank you :). But I have been busy too.
Farla, most ppl don't know about Koenigsegg (Konechi in English) because it's one of those super cars that are generally custom made. Their sole purpose is to break speed record, and look good doing it (drool*).
Dorito_125, it's been difficult finding the right blueprints, and the one that I have found is off in side and top views. Since the car is custom made different reference images show different additions , though I'm focusing on getting the basic form right :)
Johnny, thanks for the pressure ;)
Bianconero, Bugatti Veyron supposedly held the record for top speed at 407.5 km/h, but it was on its own long straight test track, disqualifying it basically. Koenigsegg showed off its speed at 389 km/h for the San Francisco to Miami Gumball 3000 Rally, making it the fastest car as of yet :bang.
So here's my first attempt at modeling Koenigsegg. The one thing that distinguishes such a car from an average car is the gorgeous curves. It took a whole day to get them just right. I kept getting dents and bulges here and there, what do you guys think.

sorry mate:

:)
BTW, out of the top 4 on the list my favourites are the Veyron and then the F1 (the only car to hold its record for more than a decade, excluding the very early ones).
Very tight modeling! Panel spacing looks perfect.

:).
Haha, that's what disqualified Veyron, check it out under Records:

But yeah, I got half of it right. SSC Ultimate Aero TT, sounds like a name right out of DC comics, looks super :)

Yup, F1 was/is totally awesome. I've had great time driving it...racing it...in Need for Speed :D
Thanks for the encouraging words, Johnny :)

"Koenigsegg CCR holds the fastest speeding ticket in the United States, which was supposedly for 242 mph (389 km/h) in a 75 mph (121 km/h) zone"
I'd love to see the look on the cop's face when that happened:)

I'd love to see when a cop actually pull over something going at that much speed. Though if I were driving a Koenigsegg or a Bugatti and see a cop coming up behind me I'd hit the pedal to the metal, just for the fun of it :D j/k

hey DJ!!! beautiful modeling. its so clean. hopefully after i get the automotive training kit i can model that clean. :)
DjVoyager
06-04-2008, 09:16 PM
Thanks, super :) Yup, the training kit is definitely going to inform you how to get those really sleek curves and edges quickly. Your Bugatti is coming along nicely but I would suggest to hold the modeling process until the kit arrives so you wouldn't have much difficulty tweaking this model :)

Are you following any of the DT's car kits? I usually follow the top and front view to make curves, then it's mostly looking at the reference images to get them right.
Here's my progress, still adjusting vertices here and there. Taking my sweet time but it's getting there, though gotta admit there have been parts which I've spent at least a day modeling, probably because my auto modeling skills are a bit rusty ;)

Thank you, everyone :) It still needs to get some dents banged out but hopefully I'll be done soon.
supernegrojr; you can post the issues in your project thread, as that is the purpose of it, but it's up to you.
Farla; I totally forgot about the wireframe shot when I was uploading these...and now I'm too tired to take the wireframe, next time :D

So here's my first render for Koenigsegg CCR, on bare minimum MR settings hence the blurry background and all. The last minute tweaking on the car took longer than I had expected but I had to get it done due to another project. Anyways, here's a silver and a dark blue Koenigsegg for your pleasure :)

Great job!
i like how you displayed multiple colours!

Thanks, guys :)
Liliana, I like the silver one too. Even though my favorite color is dark blue for some reason the silver came out better :D
Bianconero, we missed you for this project, bro. Congratulations again on winning last month's most favorite :bang
Kyle, I'm still gonna try to make it even more realistic because the environment isn't blending with the car like I want it :)

06-15-2008, 10:47 AM
Hey DJ! Thats 2 awesome looking renders you got there. I was secretly thinking the background wasn't blending in with the car in the best way, so Im you pointed it out :) That said though You've got great modelling skills, and you have done a great job compositing that into the BG image. Ive been just looking at a few threads and everyone is doing great at the modelling! Great work!

06-15-2008, 11:43 AM
Thanks, Johnny :)
I'm just glad I finished the model...okay, almost finished, because I still have to put CCR near the wheel and the logo at the front. You're right, everyone is doing a wonderful job at modeling cars even those who are doing it for the first time, hidden talent ;)
One tip When you are using reference photos, look at the reflection of the environment falling on the curves. This will give an idea of how smooth or harsh the curves are.
Koenigsegg's blue prints are awful in the sense they only provide a general profile of the car. The actual car has very specific curves, notice they get harsher near the hood.
Here's a wireframe shot of the car. There's some pinching and stars going on, really embarrassing, but when I tried to remove them the overall curvature and smoothness got affected, and the result counts so I left them there. I'm happy with the poly count though :D

Hey,
you´ve done some really great work there. The modelling is awesome. I can´t see any indentions or irregularities. The renders are really cool.
Would you mind adding the rear spoiler? I think it would look really nice on it.

Very nice work Dj, I wish I could have model my Rolls Royce Phantom I, but I got placed in Acrobat 9 Training, which is killing my hours to do anything now. But I still will do the Phantom, later on, just to do it. Great work as always Dj.

I really like that rear render of the car...even though it was in response to don's comment, you've got the angle great....also its blending in nicely in that one with the BG : )

Really great work. This month is going to be like a 6 way tie, judging from all the awesome entries so many have contributed.
Did you learn to do cars through DT training, or on your own?

have you use curves?
BTW: This month I haven't time to join to this progect because 1. I have learn matchmoving :yes and 2. I watch the European championship (Soccer) :bang

Did you learn to do cars through DT training, or on your own?
Thanks, phuntang :) I actually tried to model cars following other tutorials before DT's car modeling kit came out, but their method took longer, frustrating and the results weren't as impressive and accurate. Honestly, I felt modeling cars wasn't for me.
DT's car modeling kit immediately flipped this feeling. They start by explaining through actual photos of the car how to study its form and curves before diving into Maya. The modeling techniques themselves were so to the point that by the end of the first CD I felt so comfortable that I almost wanted to stop and continue modeling on my own...almost, because they had some really cool techniques/tips stored up in the final lessons as well :D
have you use curves?
BTW: This month I haven't time to join to this progect because 1. I have learn matchmoving and 2. I watch the European championship
I started by using Nurbs' curves but then switched to subdiv. From then on I generally convert to poly to get the quads right and then back to subdiv.
Match moving and Euro Football! sounds like a fun packed perfect summer :)

Yup, I can't run in the polls, but that's okay. I've gotten great experience out of these projects. It also helps me to understand how you guys feel about these challenges as well as try to guide you where ever possible :) Of course, there's always a place for improvement within my own work, and your encouraging comments and suggestions really help make it better. Thank you :)

No problem :)
I must say these forums definetely make people feel at home. There must be thousands and thousands....and thousands of members on here but it does feel like a close-knit community we've got going...Ive never felt the need to join and proactively take part in another forum...not to say they're not as good, I just happened to have settled with DT.
Also 1 thing I have noticed is there are so many talented people on these forums, and very skilled people. I have learnt so much about Maya in 1.5 yrs all thanks to the DT training material and Q&As on the forums...so a big thumbs up to everyone!! I really hope that I create less demand on myself soon so that I can take part in these contests too, cos I would like to be challenged with an idea I didn't think up myself.
