Hello.
I have a quick question. I'm having problems importing a video as an image plain. I get the error (unable to load [ file name. avi]) I'm using Maya 6.o and 6.5. What am I doing wrong?

It should work just fine. I just made an Image plane then I selected the file. Once you've done that select Use Image Sequence and it should work just fine.

i too faced the same problem and found out that i was using a avi video which was compressed by divx codec and i was not able to use it at first... somtimes its good to avoid using videos which are using a compression and decompression unit. its better to have it as uncompressed, if assingned to a material - works fine... but the avi file size may crank up too much ... if maya supports importing a motion picture experts group type file or any other compressed file then its easy to use 100's of videos in the 3d space...
i have a doubt too - i have 30 sec movie as HD frames and i wish to use it in the 3d plane mesh... how to use it... and as each frame is too heavy in file size, can i use a downsampled frame in the place of the actual frame to work intially in 3d ... but while rendering - i need the quality in the original quality.. how to do this... ?
can we use gif images too, in the movie node of that material.. for having the 3d animated movie clip thro gif...???
I would recommend you convert your avi into an image sequence when loading an avi you could have issues with frame rate and compression. Also AVI's are very processor / memory / performance intensive. Instead load up your image sequence and set the animation for the files. Here is a video on how to set it up on a light. The process is the same:
