Hello everyone :)

We would like you to meet C9, modeled by bianconero90 :)
http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff309/bianconero90/C9modeling.jpg

He is the main character of the project that bianconero90, Kyle_Studios, metryx, and I are working on, which is making the poster for the animation. Suggestions and comments are welcome :)

this is going to be one cool project guys! I think that Bianconero has done a great job on the model! we are off to a good start! :D

Is that a swiss army knife for an arm:)?...very nice!

You should think about making the wheels connect to a ball joint so that they can move up and down. That will add some flexibility for animations.

Yup, that's a Swiss army knife :D

Good point about the wheel.

Hey Guys...very nice start! I like the originality youve included in the design of the robot - swiss army knife for an arm, give the guy (or girl) a medal who thought that up. Very good ideas...also I agree with laxman about the wheels, left and right turns etc. Also dont know if you plan too add them, but in the pic there are little props kinda on his body like the screw things (?) on his body and below the cupboard...I reckon you should keep that design consistent when moving to the 3D :)

The robot can turn left or right with his screw that is between the torso and the cupboard. :D

Thanks for pointing that out...I missed it when looking before : S

Ya I agree with johnny on this one, nuts and bolts will certainly add to the model, great little design btw.

Great job, C9 never looked so good. This is coming along great, I have been gathering lots of robotic sounds and effects, by the end of this week I should have enough to add to any of C9's movements and scene interaction.

Oh, love the name

Looking good so far. I would suggest sharpening up some of the edges, though. Most metal objects (especially boxes) aren't that rounded. Just don't do a pure 90 degree angle, as there always is a little bevel in there. In regards to the bolts, I'd probably do a majority of them with textures. Depends on how close you're going to get.

DjVoyager

That's not a box, Dan :)

I think his torso is one piece with perhaps some indentation in the back, but we'll see how it looks after adding some textures and nuts and bolts.

"Don't count your chickens before they hatch", you haven't seen the rest of the cast yet :D

I understand it's not an actual box, but the title of the short to be "Box" so I would've expected the characters to be more boxish. I just think the edges need to be more defined. Just my two cents. :)

hey danlefeb! i see our title is not to revealing now :) hehe. You will see what BOX means , it may or may not be refering to the main character........ :)

Yes, and I'll be the first to say that I don't like critiques on unfinished works but I thought the modeling was done on that character so I figured I'd give a little suggestion on the edges. I deal with metallic objects all day long, and unless it's specifically a round object like a cylinder then almost all the parts individually have sharper edges. But then if he's not supposed to be metallic, then my bad. Just a suggestion anyway -- it looks good thus far! :)

DjVoyager

Nah, you're right about him being metallic, but like it's mentioned that he's not textured yet. We wanna get away with less geometry as much as possible by using textures :)

Here is my source sound for what is going to be I hope background noise. I still need to clean it up and then length it with a few beeps, clicks and computer effects.

to DJ and the team working on this...super awesome work!!! That pic speaks a thousand words about the animation, and IMO would be great for the poster. Theres a real feel of "technology" in that poster, and I like it a lot! You guys are doing great : )

I know it's been too long since this project's been updated but we're nearing the deadline so here goes :)

This is one of the props for the animation, which will be the second and final part of BOX. We might use it for the poster, depending, but as of now this scene is entirely composed in After Effects. The smoke in the background is animated to create a subtle aura of mystery, the orbs are lit, though not zapping lasers at the target below. Comments are welcome, but please keep in mind we're keeping the whole project simple as far as style and CG goes, to save on render time :)

freakin a, Dj that looks so clean. I finally got my system back up and running good, just installing my apps, oh and sorry about the sound effects, when I played it to see if it was good I had my head phones on, didn't think to try and use my speakers and you're right very low.

I was thinking about doing a logo for the team, nothing fancy some thing like:
D.T.M.P.
Digital Tutors Members Project

something like that and if you guy have any ideas let me know and I would like to put the poster in the logo.

Hum (http://www.zshare.net/audio/11657049c0af40f7/)

I will have a working background noise plus effect sound for you this weekend.

Sounds good, the logo :)

The humming is good as well and we can always pump up the volume in post production if need be.

Thanks, guys.

Bravo, we'll see if the storyboard, which is still open, requires it, or if something better pops up that can be squeezed in a 3 min short :)

DjVoyager

Yes, the group projects are on going. We shall start the second part of the project, the animation, on May 30th. New team mates will be added into the pipeline between May 30th and June 15th, and then we work until August 15th, the day of the premiere :)

The thing to keep in mind is that the plot of the animation has been decided, so any new ideas will be considered for extra sequence or props (if these are models). We're aiming for a 3 minute short, give or take a minute.

These group projects are on-going right? So they are spread over 2 months or does it depend on the topic/theme?

I noticed you guys had the 1st month for modeling/texturing

2nd month will be rigging/animating.

I hope to join you guys after this month as i should be finished with school

Here is the first one of the background noise clips, I wanted it to sound like a full computer environment. I can isolate just the low hum and thrumming without the beeps and electric noise. I still have a lot more sounds, but those are special effects.

He looks so sad. Nice render and touch up.

My only crit is the tyres could use a bit of detail as all i see is SMOOTH black plastic.

Overall good work :).

DjVoyager
05-20-2008, 08:56 AM
Thanks, guys. Even though there are some dark elements, including the environment, we wanted the overall look clean and light.

Farla, C9 is not programmed to tread on rugged terrains, that's probably why Bianconero90 made his tires smooth.

Project BOX, the animation is going to be postponed until further notice.

The decision comes after we felt that the story, which was finalized mid way through the first project, will require a lot of effort and commitment, i.e. all group members should be able to provide their assigned work on time and as required in the storyboards.

That said, participation calls for this animation are still open if anyone would like to join. Please send us some of your work so that we can decide a position suited for your skills. Character animators are most wanted. Even though I cannot say at this point when we will start the animation but it will definitely be in couple of months.

On behalf of our team, thank you to all DT members for your support and encouragment :)
