Im not sure if i should ask this here but this is a maya general topic so ill shoot :)

I'm still a maya 6.0 user, and I noticed that on 1 of the Basic trainingpacks (Introduction to Paint Effects)
Software Requirements
Alias Maya (v. 7 or higher recommended for support files)

So that means it would be wise not to purchase this trainingskit yet. Now I wonder, are there more training kits u suggest me to avoid since i have 6.0 (i just started with the animation part of Introduction to Maya, 2nd Edition) and i have the polygon/sub-d next to me (so i still have enough things to do since the polygons/sub-d doesn't go as "good" as i expected but that just my lack of experience i gues).

Support files means the that after every couple of steps, the file was saved and put on the CD. You can still go through the lessons and do the lessons, you just won't be able to open up completed files.

Well, not everything. That's why they're called upgrades. :) But the D-T crew does a pretty good job of letting you know what's new in 7.0 and whether or not it's available in older versions or not. All the basic features you need to do kits are in 6.0, its just a few new features that are in 7.0...Check out http://www.alias.com/eng/products-services/maya/new/index.shtml to give you an idea of some of the new features in 7.0.

if u want to open new formats, u can get a file converter form highend3d, I assume it works for 7 as well, just have to read about it.
I still use 4.2 and I still find the new stuff very usefull.
