My apologies if this is completely the wrong board, I was googling through this subject and found a few threads about "alpha channels" on this board. Perhaps if you could try to understand above and give me some general instructions I could translate that onto vegas.
Or if there's an appropriate board to put this on this website, if you could do that it would be appreciated.
But i'm having ALOT of trouble here. If i could get a solution, I'd save over 20 hours worth of work.
I use videomach to compile screenshots into an uncompressed AVI.
The colour settings available to me are described here
"Standard color depth is 24-bit (true-color), one byte for red, one for green green and one for blue component. This gives a total of over 16 million possible colors. 32-bit is similar except it also contains the transparency (alpha) information."
Whenever i used 24-bit, everything was fine. But i discovered the 32-bit option and though "more bits the better right?" so i went and started working with 32-bit files. I've actually deleted all my original screenshots... so i can't reconvert the files.
The problem:
I use vegas 7.0 (again, i'm sorry if this is the wrong board)
In vegas, I can't render the 32bit video clips.
I figured it may have had something to do with the alpha channel, so i've played around with the Properties (changed alpha channel: from "none" to "premultiplied" as well as all the other ones available.)
Here's what happens though:
Vegas has 4 quality options.. Draft, Preview, Good, Best
In draft and preview, i can render the clips when the clip properties are on "Undefined" "None" or "Premultiplied".
When on "Straight(unmatted)" or "Premultiplied(dirty)" the render is blank.
Here's the description vegas gives of all the terms above:
Undefined
Video provides no alpha channel information. This setting ignores any alpha channel information in the file.
None
Video has no alpha channel or there is an alpha channel but it’s completely opaque (solid).
Straight (unmatted)
Transparency information is maintained in only the alpha channel. Alpha information must be applied to the RGB channels before compositing.
Premultiplied
The standard method of handling alpha information. Transparency information is maintained in the alpha and RGB channels, and the image is ready for compositing. No RGB component exceeds the alpha value.
Premultiplied (dirty)
Similar to Premultiplied, but RGB components may exceed the alpha. This setting is used mainly for images created by 3D applications involving compositing of 3D images over a non-solid color image background.
WHEN the quality setting is on "Good" or "Best", no matter what the clip settings are, the screen is blank.
(I must render in good or best)
Does anyone know what's wrong or how i can over come this?
Your patience and help is much appreciated. Thanks in advanced.
