Ofcourse everyone knows by now Chicken Little topped the box office in the U.S. Not that its competition was "Jarhead", and most people prefer refreshing animated movies over depressing R rated war/soldier movies, but Chicken Little is really a good family movie. Below are some of the things to look for CG inspirations, and watch out for if you're going into animation productions.
The Pros:
1. Some of the best traits are the facial animations, which are well researched. If you're into cartoon style animation, I would highly recommend this movie. The credit also goes to the voice over actors, whom actions the animators recorded while they were performing the dialogues. The director and the animators liked their style so much that they incorporated that in the characters.
2. The modeling is simple, cartoony and suites the theme of this beloved tale. The story though, as expected, is not what we had read in our childhood though.
The cons:
1. Two words "NOT PIXAR" As much as Disney would have like this to be a proof that it can do well without the 3D animation giant this movie doesn't even come close to "Finding Nemo". Without giving too much away; The father & son relationship although seem to touch hearts at points, I felt the approach was not as solid where characters were concerned.
[SPOILER ALERT/Don't read 2, 3 if you have not seen Chicken little]
2. I can't believe Disney is trying to pull off a "Shrek" with Chicken Little. There are tons of references to other movies & songs. It's like when scripting "Chicken Little", alongside the main story, they said to one another "Well let's get the name of this movie in there cuz it was a hit", and "I like this old song, it reminds me of my prom, let's get that in there too".
Come on, it was funny once i.e. "Shrek Karaoke"...do they have to do this again?
3. The original villain was not the villain. There! Said it.
Bottom line: This is no pixar flick, but never the less makes up a good time with your friends, family. I would pick it over any of the current releases anytime. :)
