ok, so i have to make this effect for a project
a rock is tied to a stick with a string and it is lowered into a bucket of water. theres aLOT of dynamics at work here. so my first question is, when the rock is lowered into the water, how do i make the water ripple, and the second question is, how do i make the rock tied to a string? because when the rock is moving, there needs to be a realistic swaying motion...
any help here would be greatly appreciated! thanks alot! :bow

hi
thats quite a vague question but hey,
the rope could be created by using a hair sim or by the older method of a group of cubes connected by springs, the second may be the better way to go.
The rippling water is easily done in maya with a pond or if u want it to splash i would recommend realflow.

The pond is ideal for what u are wanting or is it for the rope?

hi
u can with the weld adjacent borders on Ncloth although it is not teh way i would do it, t is perfectly viable
i Created a vertical strip turned it to cloth then created atransform constratint on the 2 top verts then created a cube and positioned that at the bottom of the stip, turned tha to cloth and then selected both and hit weld adjescent borders, gave the cube more weigt and animated the transform constraint and voila wibbly, cloth with a wait on the end
:)
still would use a bunch of cubes with springs though, or hair

i sure there is a way but i really cant remember it for the moment, shall have a look and get back to ya, i can remember seeing an Alias, (yes Alias) vid of a hot cup of coffie and it used a 2d emitter with some kind of transparency to make it fit in the cup
Shall have a g and get back to ya
