Hi,

I was wonder if someone could help me find an idea to render out deformed reflections such as te ones on this picture:

Do I have to deform the actual mesh that reflects or is there any other way to keep the mesh simple and still get this sort of reflection? I'm going to use architectural material.

thanks in advance!
Karol

i think u can leave the actual mesh and the u can render layers so you can make that effect in post production using any software like Photoshop if still image or after effects or shake.
if u want to make it all 3d i think u may make a duplicate and deform it and put it in way that it isn't seen by the camera but it appears in the reflection.

Shouldn't displacement maps distort the reflection? Adjust the gradients to be softer and watch the edges of the map so that the edges of the glass where displacement might be more noticeable stay straight, while the center of the glass becomes wavy

I'll give it a shot and see what I find out.

I also wonder if Index of Refraction could be used with the suggestion in the post before mine by placing something between the glass and the object it's reflecting.

here you go.

I turned up geometry approximation to "1"

okay so the pane of glass on the left has a displacement map using this image

and the other on the right using a fractal.
