Alright, so I am just about finished with the Getting Started with 3ds Max course. (The course where you build the pod racer.)

I am having some issues with what seems to be the ground plane that is added to the scene so that you can cast shadows off of it.

Shadows are cast fine and look great, but when the ground plane is in the scene the underbelly of my racer has so much reflectivity it looks translucent. However, when I hide the ground the plane that reflectivity goes away and I get the metallic look of the underbelly back.

Obviously I want to have the racer cast shadows so turning off the ground plane permanently is not an option. I have been playing around with this four the past 24 hours and no matter what setting I tweak I simply cannot get the desired result, which would obviously be to bump that reflectivity way down.

I would appreciate any help or suggestions.

I have attached images so you can see what is occurring.

Hi,

I think you could use a "dirty" trick to get away with it, using the object properties to disable its ability to be visible to reflections.

Select your plane and right click on it, choose "Object Properties". In the General tab under the Rendering Control Section, uncheck "Visible to Reflection/Refraction".

Image attached below. (Can you see it? I don't see yours, this happens sometimes to me, attachments won't show up)

Or... you can play with the pod material reflectivity settings if you still want to have some shadow reflections on the pod.

Hi FP,

Thank you very much! Worked perfectly!
