hello

I'm having a very hard time starting out, it is like i'm going nowhere fast. :(

anyways my questions are:

1.how do you know how many spans to put in for nurbs?

2.And how many subdivisions to put in for poly?

3.When you are trying to make a human is it best to start with the head are body? And is it best to start with curves or shapes?

Well if you can that it, please see if you can help me.

The questions you're asking are all generally based on both a matter of personal opinion as well as what you're trying to model. For example, if you model a pen it'd obviously have less spans/subdivisions than if you're trying to model out a car. Also, if you're modeling a pen that you're not going to see close up you don't need to put as much time and detail into it so you can get away with less than if you're going to be seeing it close up.

Regarding the human modeling, that's a matter of opinion too...some people prefer to start with the head, some with the body. In either case, I wouldn't suggest trying to start modeling a humanoid character until you're extremely comfortable with Maya and/or 3D in general. Modeling humans is one of the more difficult things to do in 3D so I've found its better to start off small and work your way up. :)

Find your self some good tutorials, theirs lots of them. The DT Pod kit is great as a starter.
