It seems I have lost the selection box when I left click and drag. It still selects when I click and drag, but do not see the the selection area as I drag.
Hope someone can help. Not fatal, but nice to see the selection box, makes it alot easier. ;-)
Thanks!!!

Is this on your ATI machine? Just curious. I haven't heard of this issue before. Try using the lasso selection tool, and see if that shows tracing. Also, go to Window > Settings/Preferences > Performance Settings and make sure that all the first options are selected for every category.
Hope that works.

Morning DJ!! Hope your holidays are rewarding. The lasso tool doesn't show the box either. And all of the Performance settings are selected on the right side.
And yes, it is the computer with the ATI board. GRRR!!!! I am sure that must be it. GRRRRR!!!
Thanks once again!!!!

Yeah, off the top of my head I'd guess its a graphics issue - perhaps try making sure you have the most up to date drivers, try clearing as much out of memory as possible, etc.

Morning to you also Danlefeb!! I was having another little problem in the render window. It was alittle blocky till I zoom in alittle. I suppose this is a lesson I will not soon forget. I don't think I will buy another ATI, especially if I am going to use Maya.
I am reformatting and reinstalling XP, got nothing better to do (RIGHT!!).
Thanks once again guys!! And a very Merry Christmas.
Starting to snow in the hills around me here in Palm Springs. Makes it feel like Christmas!!!

Good morning, Tom :) (I woke up late)
If you are making a nice clear resolution render and it's showing up pixelated in the render view, click on 1:1 on the top, and that'll jump to actually resolution of the image.
Hope that helps.

DJ, that is when it gets blocky is when it is 1:1, if I zoom just a smidge, that corrects it. That is strange. But it must be related to the ATI card. I am almost done reinstalling XP and next Maya. Then I will see if maybe things will be alittle better. And then I will know there is a Santa!!! ;-)
Going to get a workstation soon, and I will get a Nvidia on it.
Slept in, huh? Must be nice!!! ;-)

I should clarify what I meant about blocky. I get 3 equal horizontal bands that appear shifted from the other bands. And if I zoom just alittle the bands fall back into place.
Hope that makes sense.

If you save the image off to a seperate file, are the bands there? Its quite possible its a refreshing issue...what sort of ATI card is it again? I ran Maya at my last job on an ATI Fire GL Z1 and had no problems with it.

They save perfectly, it is only in the render window that it seems to distort. I have a ATI Mobility Radeon x1800. I think right now it is the best ATI for a laptop. At least it was the best one on the Area 51 I got. I should have gotten the Aurora, as it comes with a Nvidia.

Ah. Yeah that's probably what it is. Oh well, at least it runs Maya...even though there are a few quirks, those aren't bad ones. :)

And all in all it does a very good job. Maybe now, after reinstalling, it will correct the problem. I hadn't had that problem all along, and leads me to think it was a quirk and hopefully now it will be corrected.
Thanks so much for your thoughts on this and again I wish you a very Merry Christmas!!!
I will let you know if reinstalling has helped, I think it will.

I agree with Dan. Don't under estimate your card just cuz it's got a few glitches with Maya. If it gives too much of a trouble then try practicing XSI on it instead. It doesn't seem to have any known issues with ATI, and a pretty good application too. Maya, you can install on another machine, that has Nvidia. :)

And it hadn't given me problems till just yesterday. And the render window things is trivial, and certinaly nothing to get worried about. And the XSI suggestion is also a good one as I have wanted to try it. And of course you have GREAT teachers here to teach me.
And yes, the workstation will have an Nvidia!!

Technology will always cause problems...its a given. :) I'm gonna take off from work early today so Merry Christmas, Happy Hannakuh and in general -- Happy Holidays, Tom!
