the bigger question is how do i animate a transformation sequence, goals probably....but yeah ur going to need maya and a compositor

actually! it's a tedious proccess! Those transformer riggs probally have thousands of modeled parts, and a advance rigging system, i've seen projects like this before and let me tell you it takes work, but the compositing part is just to get it to look good, but yes you can do this in maya if you have a well balanced computer and posibly a render farm so you wont bog your Pc down!,
