i have xsi 5.0 and would like to buy the basic intro to xsi training dvd, but am unsure about which edition to select. am i going to have an issue with the 5.1 version? is 4.2 too outdated?

In most cases you can buy either. I tend to go with the newer stuff even if some tools are not in my current version available. With most kit's from DT you can view any cd and it works out usually. One learns alot from even the older kits. I would go with the 5.1 and if I had time and money I would also view the 4.2.
