How do you texture this alien hand in maya 8?

Hey it's the newbie again,

I'm wondering how to texture this hand that I modelled so it's alien like (slimey, green etc) in mental ray if possible. I have no clue on textures whatsover so be a little descriptive.

Maybe a little on rendering it as well

Hello! It could get extremely involved to tell you how to texture something. Especially since it'll be different depending on if you're going for a photorealistic or a cartoonish look, or really any look. They all require different methods, although there are many similarities in the processes -- a lot of tweaking to get it just the way you want it may be needed. I'd suggest you start by watching some of the rendering/texturing videos here on DT. That'll get you pointed in the right direction.
