DT, papa, just a suggestion, is there any posibility of a new training kit for texture creation in photoshop. including bump/reflection maps etc. of course it can be bought, but it would be better if we can create it ourself. the one on maya creature bundle talks abit on skin textures but what about indoors / outdoors, marble flooring, damage metals some other textures etc.

The easiest way is to create the texture in Photoshop - then save off one of the channels as your bump map or something like that.

Actually, i was talking about teaching how i can do textures in photoshop, then once its created, of course i can save a channel out as a map. i found some videos out in the web about creating from scratch (thats what i hope to do & do) a brick wall. so i was wondering other textures should also be able to be created in a similar way too.

even a nojoy seem to have a problem with such stuff

Tried the create poly tool aswell with also devistating results, the company itself obviously didnt have a 2D displacement map wich I thought they might have to cut up the individual pieces. Im giving up on modeling this thing and concentrating on the animation and fx.
he didnt't have a displacement map to use, so if a kit can teach us how to do one it would be good

To answer your question, yes you can create a number of textures from scratch in Photoshop -- however, many times it is extremely inefficient to do so when you can simply take a photograph and manipulate it for your needs. One great way to create textures is through brushes...doing a search for Photoshop brushes on the web can yield a huge result that will help greatly when creating textures. But it goes back to time...why create a brick wall from scratch when I can find a picture of a brick and manipulate it to my needs for a specific project in less than half the time?

Its always a good thing to tinker with programs to get to know them....just be aware of how much time it will take to do something when it comes time to do a project. I'd recommend looking at some of the Photoshop tutorials as they will teach you pretty much everything you need to know about the fundamentals of Photoshop. From there, its just a matter of applying that knowledge to what you want to create. And of course, let us know if you have any questions along the way!
