With Mudbox3D being released this month, I was wondering if DT had any plans of releasing any training kits for Mudbox3D anytime soon?
Thanks!

Josh, I had never heard of this and went and looked. I didn't see that it exports to Maya or XSI format. Did I miss that?

Not that I know of.
It depends on how many requests DT gets for a training package, and as of yet we have not received any for Mudbox3D. However, your request will be noted down, so keep your fingers crossed :)

I am pleased to let everyone know DT has been using Mudbox for sometime now and will soon have training available. The guys at Skymatter/Mudbox have been very supportive of training and DT and we should have training soon after the offical public release. Stay tuned!
We had planned to do a technology preview at 3December, but the weren't able to make it due to the weather/roads.

Thanks for the posts all :)
DjVoyager: I would hope I am Santa's good side after my many hours logged working with Maya this year, hehe.
oldhippie_tom: The images of the artwork I have seen created with the Mudbox are amazing. I am waiting to be able to get in there and actually work with it.
sandip: Sounds good to me! I will be watching for any releases :)
I am placing my order of Mudbox very shortly and hope DT comes out with kits sometimes very very soon, as it would allow me to create new works over my school break :). :bounce2:
Is there anyway that I can go ahead and place a pre-order for any kits?

What is the advantages of Mudbox over Zbrush?

I am not an expert on it. But from what I have seen and heard is this. Mudbox is designed from the ground up by artists, Mudbox is intuitive, basically its a from the get go a sculpting tool, so it wasnt a painting program someone figured out they could sculpt with, ala ZBrush. As far as everything else I have not used it so I cannot speak very much on the rest.
I had a chance to speak with Ben Mathis recently, an artist at Neversoft, who said he got Mudbox's workflow and got results from Mudbox in a few hours that with ZBrush took him far longer, saying he would never use ZBrush again.
Hope this helps. Check out the website as well....

What is the advantages of Mudbox over Zbrush?
From what the cgtalk forums are telling me, it was designed by people who use Maya for a living and saw a need for 3d sculpting that was easier to use than zBrush. If you use Maya, you will be able to use mudbox pretty easily.
The interface is suuposedly really simple, but powerful- think photoshop. It has layers you can apply to your model, etc.
zBrush has that strange kind of "2.5d" painting going on, and the obtuse interface. Many people say it doesn't matter, that you should be able to use whatever software if you are a talented artist.
But honestly, which tool would you pick if they essentially do the same thing: The tool with the more complex interface or the one with the simple interface?
This can only be good for us, as any competition in that market for zBrush will mean they will be forced to keep up in areas they are lacking - like interface- while Mudbox will be forced to show they can handle the HUGE poly counts that zBrush does, and that they can perhaps add the texture painting features of zBrush.

Interesting, so it all comes down to whichever tool is similar to the app your workflow is the fastest on. Zbrush is a pretty powerful software, but I found that spending a lot of time on it reduces my speed in Maya, what with unintentionally pressing the wrong keys. I even have XSI set to QWERTY, so yeah, I'd be interested in learning Mudbox :)

I just know it is simple, and ZBrush is great, but its like this. If I can do something quicker and easier, and not have to worry about a complicated workflow, then I am all over it. :yes
I just cant wait for DT to release the kits, and I hope it is soon so that I can learn all about this software! :)

That is good news for me. I hate having toswitch a lever in my brain to remember the keys to move around in other programs.

I've used ZBrush, it is quite powerful, in fact I am still getting used to Xsi's workflow. I am an "alter", and qwerty I find still very intuitive. but you have to think if that is the ONLY way to make a productive workflow? no way!! I find so much more intuitive rotating around my model without having to press any key at all. and no offense, but choosing a tool simply by what keys you use is dumb, you can set the hotkeys in Zbrush anyways, theres a zplugin for it, ive developed my own zcript for my workflow, is Mudbox open in that sense? ZBrush is really the bomb, but Pixologic has some competition now, and Mudbox is being used for feature films. no pressure Pixologic!! hehehe I really like Zbrush still, but I'm willing to give Mudbox a chance. a clear advantage I think Mudbox has, there's a linux version planned, ZBrush doesn't and has none planned so...
