is it just me or softimage is being left behind ? i was wondering if digital tutors going to leave softimage in the shadows like autodesk did. most of the new interesting tutorials are for 3ds max maya and lately for the main focus on cinema 4D
and what i mean about interesting is the fun full courses where you get to make full models for ex:
'Infiltrator' Production
Motorcycle Modeling Techniques in Maya
Creating Digital Humans and many others
the immediate response if what not just buy those tutorials and apply them the same technique at softimage

and i wonder why maya and 3ds max 2012 both got new introduction tutorial and softimage only tutorials were about ice

Hi enzo80,

We are not leaving Softimage behind. We have several courses coming soon. Not any of the specifics you mention, but some interesting courses. We focus on ICE development because it's an incredibly powerful system that has no comparison in the Autodesk lineup.

This is true, that you guys have had some really interesting Softimage tutorials, but...

In the past the Softimage stuff was fairly evenly balanced among the Maya and 3ds max stuff. All kinds of rigging, modeling and rendering tutorials, even when a lot of it was redundant.

What has changed though is that the 'redundant' videos have continued in regards particularly to Maya. It seems every new version of Maya gets a whole new massive 'introduction to" course, for example, and I couldn't count how many modeling and integration videos you have for Maya.

At the same time I can't think of a single Softimage Integration series at all, and although ICE and Lagoa have been given a whole lot of awesome attention, I can't believe you have totally ignored Face Robot. Not even so much as a mention of Face Robot or Syflex, for that matter, while Maya gets course for Syflex and Shave and a haircut and other plugins.

I know you can't please all of the people all of the time, but to be honest, although quite good, all your recent Softimage courses aside from the ICE and Lagoa tuts just felt kind of uninspired.

Bring back the days of Automotive Modeling in XSI!
Let's see a full project integrating Softimage with Mudbox, back and forth, and then into Composite!
And even some ICE/Syflex would be appreciated.

I love you guys, and I've been buying your videos since long before you went online only. I think I own every Softimage and Zbrush video course, but your emphasis on Maya and seeming de-emphasis on Softimage is, quite honestly, the reason I let my subscription slide.

Okay, what I wrote above was kind of harsh, but I guess I was just in a bad mood. I had been looking for a specific type of tutorial for something in Softimage and wasn't finding anything at all.
I don't really mean that recent DT Softimage tutorials have been uninspired, just that there's not enough, IMO, especially where it comes to some of these lesser-known features.
Face Robot being one of those, as well as Syflex and now, of course, Syflex in ICE.
The last DT Softimage tutorial I think I saw here was one by Kyle on lighting, I think. Or maybe it was the one about SSS and real eyes. I can;t remember now, but they were high quality and informative just as always. The wing rigging tutorial is really good, I'm sure too.

This is definitely one of those times though that I wish we could still buy disks. I'd love to see the few newer ones that have been released since my account expired, but there's generally not enough *new* Softimage material here to make it worth maintaining an account. (As I mentioned, I already own almost all the XSI videos from back when you could still buy them, so maintaining an account to watch the whole catalog doesn't make sense for me)
I would just like to see them put the same emphasis on Softimage that they put on Maya, for instance. I realize that's unrealistic since I know there's far more demand for Maya training, but I guess we all just want what we want. ;)

If you look back though, there are hundreds of older Softimage|XSI training packs here from several years ago, and they're all amazing and detailed. Fortunately, they're all still valid, too, except maybe the ones regarding the old dynamics system in XSI before ICE.
it just seems unbalanced though. For example, there are probably 50 videos here on how to render a torus knot with FG, but not one mention of Syflex.

Well... now that the Softimage 2012 SAP is out with several new features, including modeling updates, and hinting at potential new features for SI 2013, so maybe next year we'll get one of those full blown "Introduction to" videos like Maya gate every year. :D

And I think it might be about time for a good comprehensive V-Ray tutorial for Soft, now that the beta is public.

I forget the link to post ideas for training . I will try to find it for you unless some one else has it in there cut and paste history. Its better to use the link as its very hard to see every post and thread on the forum .

I agree more up to date material covering the new features would be handy . But I'm willing to wait for quality materials . I'm sure something is on the list .

You're not going to have to wait until next year ;)

You just made my Day Chris, and you can bet I'll be watching out for that! :D

The funny thing is, I've been using Softimage for a good while now and while I wouldn't claim to be an expert on much of it aside from a few things I do regularly such as modeling, surfacing and rigging, I still love to eat up the tutorials because no matter what the subject is I always manage to learn something new that I didn't know before, or failed to notice.

So while your "Introduction to..." courses tend to be geared more towards beginners, you guys are definite pros when it comes to using the software, and all of you are excellent teachers. So as I said, there's always something new to learn even when you think you don't need to learn anything more, especially when watching a seasoned pro doing the work.
ESPECIALLY when you think you don't need to learn anything new is when it seems most likely you actually will. ;)

@bravo2zero:
I do know where the suggestions list is. I posted at least one there asking for ICE Syflex and Face Robot I think, plus I'd love to see something about using ICE as a replacement for Softimage hair.

There is a lot to XSI , I would like to see a Linux plug-in in the works myself might make me use it a little more then i do now . I know there is a Linux version but only available to lager cooperate entities . How ever there is a Linux standalone version for rendering via cluster is useful .
