Hello, out there in Maya land.

I believe, or should I say hope, there is a way I can track or keep a record of each of the steps I take in Maya. This would be something beyond the construction history: similiar to what photoshop does. Any ideas for a newbie who lost some stuff and could not return to the place he was and wishes he could have been. "They say you can never go back."

Also I want to duplicate and mirror and attach some nurbs geometry. Don't seem to have a tool like polygonal mirror and attach.

Oh well the frustation, I mean the joy  .. continues. newbie no. 217645

I'm not sure what you mean by history of steps taken, but the construction history is the only thing that keep track of all the operations you did that have construction history. The only other thing is the script editor which keep track of everything command given but that clears itself every time you close the scene. If you had something then performed an operation that changed it then deleted the history and saved it, you're pretty much stuck. One thing i'd recommend from now on though is turning on the incremental save. I keep mine on unlimited for the duration of a project. Once the project is done I keep the last 20 and delete every second one so I have 10 saves that span a decent amount of time. Each file is usually less than 1mb so it really doesn't matter that much.

About the attach. Do mirror a nurbs object and attach it you have to do it manually. So duplicate it with an inverse scale then use the attach tool.

Thanks Laxman,

For answering newbie no...

I myself, was thinking of a file referencing system where your scenes are saved to a folder as steps in the construction process. I think I read about this somewhere, but I can see I was wrong and confused. But that keeps me going back to the forum.

Anyway, thanks much for checking in and sending a response

There is a file referencing system inside of Maya and has been heavily imporoved in the latest versions of Maya. I suggest looking at the user docs (F1) and checking up on the subject for starters.

The construction history steps can easily be accessed under the channel box, click on one of the steps and make changes. Thought I'd point that out for some reason ;)

Much Fun and Welcome to the Forums while I'm at it :)
