Hello there once again :D
this is a new personal project ive started. Pausing my activities in character creation for some days I want to dedicate myself to this new and fun project of creating a fantasy ship for cinematic use. I want this model in the end to be really detailed in all aspects - also the interiors, with desks, chairs beds etc.
I will also rig some parts of the ship like windows and doors so that they can be animated easily. Also will add nCloth for the sails.
Before I got started, I thought about what I want the ship to look like and made some concepts in photoshop.
So I wanted it to be a rather light ship and I does not have very strong weapons, but I wanted it to be very fast - and look like it is a fast ship. It also would be a very agile ship so that It can escape easily in case of attack. Im not a specialist in naval architecture, but I had the Idea of giving it a kind of Double Sail system - to make it flexible and agile. But even if that does not work in real life - I dont care - its a fantasy ship anyway xD
So after making those thoughts and concepts I jumped right into it and started modeling in maya.
After some curve based modeling for the hull and decks:

Well, after I got kind of used to this new model (ive modeled characters and other creatures (all organic) I really started to get some nice ideas for handrails, windows, stairs and so on...
for some other intial modeling pics visit this thread (http://www.digitaltutors.com/forum/showthread.php?27557-Some-Qs-about-modeling) :)
Ross K. helped me a lot with some really useful tips for modeling this kind of stuff.
So the current status looks like this:

As you can see Im working with a human 1.8m High model in the scene. Just to check if everything has the right measure ;)
