i created an EP Curve and cylinder then extruded the face on the cap of the cylinder along the EP curve however when i add a color and bump map to it, the bump map only views properly on the original cylinder and then looks like it is stretching it along the extruded part. Can anyone tell me how to fix this so the bump map appears correctly along the entire extruded part. thanks

Thats because you need to layout your UVs. The fastest way to do that would be to do an automatic mapping. If you are using a procedural texture, you could just use a 3D node instead since it does not get its info from the UVs.

After you make the extrude try playing with the segments as well so they are evenly spreaded. Once that is the case the bump map should look fine. Its only stretching, because after youre extrude the tool is leaving large (tall) faces, wich as laxman stated above will cause the texture to stretch due to the uv's layout stretching as well while modeling. The fast workaround would be to create evenly distributed faces square like to make the bump look evently or to use laxmans method above. Hope this helps and clears the issue on what is actually happening with the extrude itself. Use the grid from a side view for instance as a reference incase you decide to give it a try. Good Luck
