I am doing the course introduction to modelling XSI. I am currently doing lesson 4 and having a problem at 2.57. I am trying to reduce the sub divides of the cylinder but when I do it deletes parts of the cylinder. I am using softimage 2011. I have attached a screenshot which explains the problem better. 73917393
Hi nat92! That certainly is very strange as a newly-created primitive should be able to adjust the subdivisions without any issues. However the sort of issue you have going on in your screenshot is common if there have been adjustments made on the component level. Here’s a quick video to show what I mean. Hope it helps!

Here's a link to the Introduction to Modeling in XSI (http://www.digitaltutors.com/11/training.php?pid=3450) course that was referenced in the video.

Hey
Thanks for the help I tried what you said but it still doesn't work. I didn't do anything to the cylinder apart from scale it before I tried removing sub divisions.

Hi nat92,
That is very strange - I have been unable to replicate the problem you are experiencing within any version of Softimage. As Dan mentioned, this problem typically occurs if you try to move or tweak any of the object's components prior adjusting the subdivisions.
Even something as simple as moving a single point on your cylinder prior to adjusting the subdivisions will give you the exact result you are describing.
Here's something to try - If you simply create a polygon cylinder, and adjust the subdivisions *before* scaling or moving the cylinder, do you experience the same problem?

Hey sorry thought I already replied to the thread until I checked today and saw that I hadn't. I tried that and still have the same problem. I don't know what's causing it.

Don't know if this will help but if I make one of the viewports shaded before I create the cylinder when I create the cylinder it is made all broken like in my first screen shot.

Also if I start from further lessons 5 and lesson 6 the cylinder looks messed up and becomes worst if I try to adjust it in anyone.

So in the image you posted, is this how the cylinder looks when simply opening the lesson 5 scene file that was provided by Digital-Tutors?
If that is the case, then I'm really stumped. I have been unable to replicate this problem, and I have never heard of anyone having this type of issue before.
About the only thing I could recommend would be to try updating your graphics card drivers, and perhaps try a fresh installation of Softimage. Sorry I don't have better news for you, but if I discover anything new, I'll let you know.
