Hi everybody:

I donīt know how to make 3dstrokes but really in 3d, not with the trapcode pluggin. i mean that the stroke flies like a ribbon. (with maya if possible)

Thanks

This is an example made with cinema 4d, but i dont want this vectorial or toon style.

example video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=veR6r_Ucy4c)

hi spertavo,

to make flowing ribbon like things make a curve with the cv/ev curves and model the cross section of the shape u want to float down it, then select the faces and extrude them along the path WITH HISTORY ON this is because u can then animate the attribute that extrudes it along the curve.

Hope that helps

Broomy's right.
And by the look of this video it seems a PaintFX brush is applied to the curve. Select the stroke and keyframe its Max Clip at the start(0) and at the end(1) of the timeline to animate. Then you can have a camera follow the curve too.

As mentioned, extrude a straight line (1 degree curve) along a path curve (3rd degree), then animate the extrude amount so it `move`along the curve. If you don`t want to toon render, you are probably going to go for a glow effect right? If so, you might even want to make the path curve a softbody and apply some fields to the path curve for some secondary movement. Then on the extrude geometry, apply a glow.

thanks a lot iīm going to try those solutions and then i will show you the results

thanks to all for your posts

i dont know whats the matter because i made a face extrusion of my polygon and there is not a modifier for min and max (for the animation).

only when i made a spline extrusion with other spline...but i want to do a polygon face extrusion.

thanks

No, that's only going to be for a PaintFX stroke. However, if you want to make a polymesh flow across the path curve then convert the PaintFX stroke to polygon, but do not delete the history on it. That way you can apply changes to min or max or any attribute of the stroke and it will take effect on the polymesh.
Hope that helps.

if you go to extrude surfaces and then set the output for sub-ds, you will get 4 input nodes, the first and second one will be subCurve1 and 2 and you can animate the min and max values of that. I don't know why the other geometry types don't let you do that since its a pretty easy thing for the computer to do, but whatever, its easily done with sub-ds.

ok let me clarify:

1) Create a curve to represent the path of the animation

2) Create another curve to represent the shape of the stroke, for my example I created a NURBs circle then moved to CVs to make it a rectangle.

3)Select the profile, and then the path curve and extrude making sure to have sub-ds selected.

4)Then in the inputs section of the channel box you should see subCurve1 and subCurve2, click on subCurve2 and change the maxValue.

4) for an animation just do a key frame on that and do not delete history.

I think im a dissaster because it is impossible for me to make this stroke . i cant animate it and i dont know why.
i need a stroke without holes in the front and the back.

thanks to all

If someone make me a videotut i will be happy
jejeje

thanks again and sorry for my english

Okay, first of all, are you following Laxman's method or my method? They're both achieving the same results but using different forms.

Attached is a scene file that shows a paintfx stroke flowing on a path curve. Render out the animation using camera1, see if that's what you're looking for, and we'll go on from there.

ohh god!!! this is exactly that i need but im so stupid and i canīt do this... thanks djvoyager

No problem. Keep us posted of your progress.

now i can make it with both methods but i dont know how can i cover the holes in the end and the begining of the stroke...thanks

really thank you!!

if you did a sub-d extrusion all you have to do is select the curve which made the extrusion shape (in my example it was a nurbs circle) then go to surfaces planar and it will make a surface to cover the beginning.

yes laxman but the planar doesnīt follow the animation of the stroke.

if you just want a surface then use a straight line as the extrusion curve instead of a circle.

I am watching and hoping to see how this turns out.

for the strokes, just make a curve and extrude along another curve, then apply a texture to it. If you want some of the curves to have depth, like the ones that have text writing on the ends of them, you will have to make the geometry and then animate it using a skeleton system. Just make some joints and apply a smooth bind, then move them around. Watch some of the free vids for an idea of how to use joints.

ohh god this is very difficult for me. thanks laxman
