View Full Version : Render to Texture saves black textures!

Hello.

I'm on Max 2011 and rendering with mental ray.
No matter what settings I use, I get black textures after rendering all objects in my scene, despite the fact the textures look good when they're rendering...
I have an architecture scene in Max and want to optimize that for OpenGL or DirectX so it runs in realtime... What would be the best approach?

Thanks DT and keep up the good work!

is your VGA card setup in max correctly? make sure you are using GL or direct3d if you check your user manual to see which one is correct because a lot of VGA card setting are different so we cannot tell you what the settinng are.

also try the 2 lighting render i found that was the reason when i first started to use max.

When you start a new with blank viewports and you create a box lets say you which to MR and you apply the same texture and setting does it still render in black.

Also make sure your not using the same colour (color) as the black environment if your doing this then you won't see your render.

if you have a black texture then you'll need to change the environment color (colour)

Actually I found an in-depth guide on how to use this but I can't do a crucial step: I can't set the File Name and Type, the option looks greyed out as well as the little button with the (...) on it... Any clues on how to override this? In the guide I found they explain that sometimes Max will screw up when rendering to TGA's so it's better to set that to render JPGS or PNGS, but I can't change anything...

I'm sure it's just a checkbox or similar I'm missing... Thanks for your interest!

Cheers
