Okay - I'm using a Mac, I've written a Mel script and created a shelf item - now I want to give it it's own custom item.

The problem is maya will only let you use an .xpm type file and from googling this it seems this is native to Irix. Well I ain't got that kind of money so is there any way of creting these .xpm extensions via photoshop plugins etc? This is kinda weird given Maya's almost seemless integration with the Shop.

If sucha plugin exists or other 3rd party editor where can I get it from?

Do a search on highend3d.com There are plenty of .xpm to .bmp converters, I don't think i've ever seen a PS one though.

Thanks for the tip laxman. However I did follow the advice you give but there is nothing but an xpm viewer for windows in th download tools section, and no converter specifically to convert bmp's to xpm format for windows or more importantly for Mac

Good point, I was talking about:

http://www.highend3d.com/maya/downloads/tools/image_utilities/816.html

but thats for PC, doubt it will work on MAC.

On the other hand, this should help:

Also this software might help:
