There's a bit of sad news from Peter Jackson yesterday. He's not going to be making The Hobbit.
I'm too disappointed to explain the reasons behind this shocking decision so here, read it for yourself.

That is sad....especially since he dropped out of the Halo movie as well. :(

Yeah, I wonder what's up. I thought he was so passionate about producing these movies especially The Hobbit that their production was already under way. Ah, it's not going to be the same without his directing skills :(

its the politics of the whole thing, New Line wanted to do the hobbit movie, but MGM beat them to the rights i think, but New Line originally owned the rights to all the other Tolkein stories, err i dont know....stupid politics, well Jackson has other films on his roster, The Dam Busters, Heavenly Creatures, THE TEMERAIRE MOVIE, :yes ;) and about the Halo movie, thats another project that got sucked into the black hole of politics, u know what, its good it was cancelled, u cant do a movie thats pure shoot em up, i mean if u do it entirely on the game its going to fail miserable, (history repeats itself) and i had a feeling that the studios didnt want to give Microsoft 10% percent of the sales, IMAO if u want to do a movie of Halo u do one of two things,
1. u dont do it base on the game, for the love of all things u do not, ppl want story nowadays, the best hope for this u do the game around the prequel novel that was written by Eric Nylund, (its really good ppl, i strongly recommned it) cus everyone played the game and knows what to expect, but i bet u most ppl dont know the back story of the whole thing, like the story of the master cheif and his spartans, how captain Keyes got command of the Pillar of Autumm, how did we come in contact with the covenant and such things
2. why relie on a vfx house when they could cut costs by having Bungie do the movie, they have the models, they have the mocap studio.....well Bungie is in a sort of disaray i heard most of their employees are wanting to go back to their old boss, still, why does it have to be a live action film, when u could do a complete CG one, prolly save u some of the budget when u dont have to use a maya/renderman pipeline
gee....now i feel like a bigshot hollywood producer, lol, just my two cents....

The Hobbit and the other prequel will suffer for this political nonsense.
Yet another example of how Hollywood suits and their lawyers screw things up, and then wonder why movie viewership has continually decreased.

But the movie wasn't based on the games. It was based on the first book, which technically took place before the first game (great book too, if you haven't read it you should!)

I love the Lord of the Rings, the books and the movies. I starting reading because of the Lord of the Rings. This hurts me that Peter Jackson is not making the Hobbit. I only think a man like him who love LOTR can really make the Hobbit, and make it good at that. This is a day that sadden my heart. =(

Mixed signals then, huh? I was going off an interview I read with one of the guys from Bungie....ah well, in either case at least they still have "Halo Wars" coming out!

I guess whoever does make the hobbit will start out in the red. They will have to prove them self.

I wish a film would be made of the Silmarillion
Imagine the Battle of the Powers, the Valar, Morgoth, The King of the Dragons dueling with Aearendil. The Iron Crown, the Curse of Feanor...
so much
