View Full Version : Achieving A Render Like This
I'm trying get a render similar to the image below. Was wondering if anyone here got some tips and tricks for mental ray that can give me a similar result. Lights, colors, settings things like that...

it would take too long to explain on a forum, trust me.
Tell ya what, and I dont normally do this, model out that same scene and then send it to me. I'll do the render setup so when you hit render it looks like that. Then you can look at the scene and see what I did so you can learn. Sound good?

I agree with Danlefeb. You better check out the Mental Ray kit. You'll learn how to create renders like that up there, and then some.

I do share it with people where I work for free, unfortunately some people take advantage of me and then leave me high and dry; my problem is Im too nice. I will be creating a site with free tutorials on some of the most complex aspects of 3dsMax, Maya, and XSI but this will not happen anytime too soon because of stupid people who seem to like getting in the way of success.

Jak is the shiznit. :) He gave me some very good advice about MR and I took it. Take a look at what I was able to do with MR.

don't give up Jak its human nature to try and beat down the people trying to be successful.
Thanks

Hey, thanks for the help I really appreciate it. I've tried attaching the zip file but the limit on this forum is 97kb. Do you have an email I can send it to?

I got the scene, but I just have one question, I was wondering what version of Maya are you using? Im on 8, but if you need it for 7, I may be able to accomodate you. Let me know when you have the chance ok?

Well I somehow found about 10 hours during this Thanksgiving holiday weekend and worked on this scene. R-B modeled a couple of the flower things and well I couldnt resist and went ahead and modeled some extra stuff like the cups and the weird flower thing on one of the cups (wtf is that? lol).
I used all MR shaders and lighting features on everything. I pretty much made use of photons, FG, refractions, glossy reflections, and a whole bunch of other MR stuff. Render time was about 40 mins on my system; 40 mins for this quality aint bad at all really.
I have included the scene file for those who wish to disect the scene and see how I did it; I even went so far as to make annotations on some objects so make sure you look carefully and read my comments to help you out.
Unfortunately this forum has a ridiculous size limit; 97KB !!??
I am hosting the file on my ftp, but not for long so get it while its hot LOL :dance
