Not sure if you new this, but the visual artists involved with this movie was about 1440 people. Out of which only 20 were uncredited. Just some useless trivia.

Interesting. I remember watching the credits and counting the different FX companies. I think I counted 12 or something like that. But why are they at the very very end of the credits... considering it was an FX centered movie?

I think credits are influenced by contractual requirements, industry standard layouts, and/or even the order in which things happen in the timeline (VFX/CG being one of the end processes). It probably changes from company to company though.
I'm probably extremely wrong about my timeline guess... ;P

Its about the importance of the roles. Credits is a evaluated roster. The movie like Avatar has a lot of CG, but it doesn't overpower the producers, directors, actors, music, & Production crew members. Sucks but true.

It's also just recently said @ Ign.com that James Cameron will also no longer be producing or making any other movies except for the rest of the Avatar trilogy and possibly Avatar 4 & documentaries. Interesting find In my opinion.
