I'm trying to unfold a simple cylindrical object in Maya 7 with cylindrical mapping but it doesn't lay it flat in the UV editor. Part of the object that is on the other side is overlapping/folded over in the UV editor, the whole thing is not flat. Any idea how I can get the cylinder object to map out completely flat?

Hey, try clicking on the small blue "T" icon on the cylindrical gizmo and invoking the rotate by clicking on the circle. Rotate the gizmo as you would any object while looking in the uv editor, this gives you real time feedback, just stop rotating when your happy with what you see.
Hope this is of some help.

Alright, I figured it out how to use the cylindrical mapping tool. Thanks H3llbound.

Now for another question, how do I link shader nodes?

Middle mouse button and drag on top of the shader's attribute you want to link to.
