A week ago I posted a question about setting up a renderfarm. I do this again to get some attention. The tread seemed to have died. This was the original + a later post:

I want to speed up my renderings and have 2 computers. so, why not let them work together, if they can. Do any know a program that can connect them, and what other things do I have to give a thought? cause I think this is quite hard to set up. One is Intel Pentium 4 and the other one Intel Pentium D.

I can see now with the research I've done that this is a bit too complex. Though I'm determend to make this work.

In the command Prompt I have to enter:
mentalrayrender -hosts machine1 machine2 sceneFile.mi
with a file in my home directory of my master computer called maya.rayhosts. What exactly do I have to put in as the machines name? and how do I specify the SPM_HOST, MAYATOMR, and RAY environment variables?... well, it's only asking for the SPM_HOST.

Can you tell me what I have to do besides that? I know it's much to ask for, but it would be nice with a detailed desciption of how I connect the two computers so they can share the needed informationMorten Mazur Nielsen

I believe you have to use a third-party app if you want to render with Maya's software in a farm.

Ww this is an old post! I can teach you how to render using many CPU's over th network (multi platform) but I am not sure if anyone reads this post. If so, email me at themacbrain@yahoo.com as I dont want to post to a thread no one reads.
