hi,

i bought the character set up kit and its really cool but i miss one thing and thats the ability to rotate hips. There is only translate attributes for the hip sway control in this kit. How do you rotate the hips? Do you rotate the whole upper body and then rotate the shoulders and arms back, or is there any other way to rotate hips with this rig?

thanks,
nevim

There are two controls for the hip area; hip control and hip sway. Hip Sway just sways the hip while the Hip Control moves and rotates the whole body from the hip area. You'd have to use the backControl to rotate the upper body. The rig doesn't rotate the hip separately because it doesn't work that way for real human body.
You can rotate the upper body and the hips won't follow, but you can't rotate the hip and not have the upper body follow. Hope that makes sense. At least, I can't distort my body that way :D

Hi,
I was confused too because, the characterSetupRigging dvd has a rig that you set it up so that there are no rotation channels on the hip sway but then when you go through the walkCycle dvd, one of the first steps they instruct you to do is rotate the hip sway control. I looked at the rig on the walk cycle dvd and it has an extra cluster called, "clusterRotateHips" which isn't explained in the characterSetupRigging dvd.

Hi,

I'm having this issue too. And in real life, it certainly is possible to rotate your hips and not have all of you upper body follow - plant your feet, and you can rotate your hips without rotating your shoulders.

And when you walk - even more so when you run - your hips rotate in the direction of your leading leg, while your shoulders do the opposite.

cheers
