Hey guys I'm modeling a car right now, and I'm just looking for some tips on how to model rims and tires with polygons

try making a cylinder for the middle section, the make a cube and extrude it for the spokes. Make one of the spokes, then duplicate it to create the other ones. There some free tutorials on the net which show you how to make rims, and DT has a car making kit which will show you how to model the entire car.

Hey there !!
Here is a nice way to model rims of any car. Wat u do is :-

1] Take nurbs circle n rotate in z axis 90 degrees.

2] Now duplicate tht nurbs circle n move it [translate in x axis] in x axis
about 0.1 or 0.2 units. Now u have two nurbs circles.
3] Now scale second nurbs circle a little bit, not much.
4] Now duplicate the second nurb circle which u scaled just now n translate in the x axis in NEGATIVE 0.1 or 0.2 units[whichever u used b4]

5] Now u got three nurbs circles with the middle one which is smaller than the side ones.
6] Now select all three circles[ extreme one first then the middle and then the third] n go to modeling menu>surfaces>loft option box and select output mesh as nurbs , save the settings and loft with the curves selected, there u got a rim shape . Select the curves n go to Edit>Delete by type>History and delete the curves.

for the spokes n stuff:-

1] make a cylinder and make it flat by scaling in y axis.
2] rotate in z axis 90 degrees.
3] now select every alternate face on the circumference of the cylinder and extrude them out scaling gradually.

for the tyre :-

follow the same procedure as for the inner rims just make the middle nurbs circle bigger than the two side ones. Use fours nurbs circle if u want for a neat squary tyre.
