Kind of a strange question that confuses me. I rendered out 32-bit exrs, and compositing mostly in toxik/composite, but going to use After Effects to add the z-depth. Since I have to go into AE anyway in order to output for DVD, I wondered about file formats, bits, etc....
So would I want to export 32-bit exr's into AE in order to keep the quality? And since Im working with a linear workflow, should my files that are being exported from Composite be gamma corrected before export, or gamma corrected in After Effects?
Hi smokedogg! I usually prefer to stick to a single format throughout the post-production process if at all possible. If the only work you're doing in AE is to add depth you can actually do that in Composite. Here's a great course on that: http://www.digitaltutors.com/09/training.php?cid=120&pid=384
As for outputting to DVD, I'd take a look at what formats your DVD software can handle and then work backwards that way to determine what format you need to render out. Most DVD software will probably require an actual movie file so you may need to hop into AE just to convert the image sequence from Composite to a movie, but at that point you can render out a temporary file that is uncompressed and not really have to worry about any settings since you're not going to be doing any real editing in AE. Hope that helps!

Yea, that helps. And I know I could do depth maps in composite, but I got some neat plug-ins for AE to do it. Although, that course does look interesting, I cant really afford to pay for a month or whatever just for that 1 course.
Thanks again...

Ok, I dont know what the problem is now. Usually people are posting why their image is turning out dark. Well now Im asking the exact opposite. When exporting an EXR from Composite to AE, it appears as if the image is gamma corrected already. Why? I was expecting to see a dark image in AE, but already looks to have gamma applied to it. In Composite, I deleted the sRGB color display mode, have no remaps, or any other gamma related correction applied.
