Hello,

I am very experienced with After Effects, but having some trouble making the transition over to Nuke. Surprisingly, most of my problems are coming from what seem to be simple issues: I can't get the feathering of rotoshapes or the blur to work properly. I also have a similar issue with the Ramp effect. The transition just isn't smooth. I have tried switching the modes from linear to smooth0 and smooth1, but it still doesnt look right.

How can I get the feathering and ramp to match After Effects? Does it have anything to do with the linear lightspace?

Thanks.

Hi swink85,

I think this is because of the linear light space. Try creating a ramp/feather and in the top right of your viewer, next to the pause button, change your screen space from sRGB to None. This is the 'actual' color being worked with mathematically behind the scenes. The viewer just gives it a gamma boost of 2.2 to convert it from linear to sRGB, which is why nothing looks right. If you set your feather to smooth and turn off your viewer gamma adjust, the edge should look very smooth. You also probably want to double your feather values from After Effects to Nuke, since it looks like an AE feather of 10 is feathering 10 pixels on both sides of your mask, while a Nuke feather of 10 will only be 10 pixels wide.

Let me know if you have any other questions!
