View Full Version : Problems with Template and Render on layer box

Hi there!
Earlier I was doing on practicing PLE 7 on locomotive and I switch the layer into template or reference. Everything was fine. Now I was doing a new project, I am now unable to turn the object into template or reference to see the transparency wireframe. Any idea how to activate or switch it on! Please advice. Many Thanks for your guidance!

I don't see a reason that it wouldn't work... Unless ofcourse the object is not in the layer.
you may like to try out "rightClicking" on the layer in mention and from it's context menu choose to template/refference it from there.
Or even try to see if you can do it through the layer attributes accessed again from right clicking on the layer.
I have been working with MaYA in an non-novice level for some very long time now and it is th first time I hear of such a struggle... I would strongly recomend your reinstalling if this continues... if not for you to actually contact Alias... or AutoDesk or your distributer and claim a renewal if the situation continues.
If your only worry is to get the imae on wire frame... I believe simply pressing "4" should be good enough for you... ("5" to get back to shaded display)

did you make sure the object was assigned to the layer?

I know this is an old post, but I just had the same problem - but found a solution.
I assigned the objects to the layer, but when I changed the layer to reference or template, nothing happened. It was possible to turn visibility on and off, so the objects were assigned to the layer.
Now, I found out that the objects also were assigned to the default layer. So I went into the hypergraph, and disconnected all the object from the default layer - then the objects were only on the created layer.
Hope this helps if anybody gets in the same trouble :-)

Actually, I found out that you can just try to assign the objects to the layer 2 or 3 times, and then the reference and template options work. :-)
